Joris Geens (born on 3 May 1985) has been a lawyer
since 2008. He joined GSJ advocaten in 2009. He has become particularly
specialised in administrative law and, more specifically, in general
administrative law, environmental management law, public procurement
negotiations and contracts, eminent domain property law, expropriations and
road law. Versatility being the name of the game, Joris has focused his
energies not only on judicial proceedings (courts and tribunals, the Council of
State, the Council for Permit Disputes, etc.), but also on the challenging work
of advising and assisting private clients, companies and public authorities.
Until 2016, Joris worked at the Catholic
University of Leuven, where he held various teaching posts as an assistant
lecturer in the Public Law department within the institutes for Administrative
Law, Environmental Law, Energy Law and Judicial Law. At the same time, he
taught a course at the University of Hasselt.
In addition, Joris Geens has been invited to give
talks at numerous seminars and has published a number of articles and academic
papers. He is a member of the Vlaamse Vereniging voor Ruimte en Planning (VRP -
Flemish Association for Spatial Management) and the Centrum voor Recht, Onteigening en Waardering (CROW -
Centre for Law, Expropriation and Valuation) and he is on the editorial board
of the "Public Law Collection" of the publishing house Vanden Broele.
In addition, he is a substitute member of the Brussels-Capital Region’s
Commission for access to administrative documents.
Lastly, Joris has acquired a wealth of management
experience in his current post as alderman of the municipality of Zandhoven and
as the director of a company.
